Fabric acquisitions

 As promised here are my fabric acquisitions from Shipshewana and Ligonier. 

These were purchased at Zincks in Ligonier, IN. and I know exactly what I am doing with each one of them, LOL.  On the left is star print for patriotic backgrounds. The next four are for cupcake table runners. The green plaid for St. Patty's table round wedge toppers, and the leaves are for fall round wedge toppers.

Two panels are from Yoders in Shipshewana, IN. 🠝

Pumpkin placemat panels 🠝except I will be using them in small wall quilts. I picked up a coordinating blue. Guess what...I already started on one! This panel and the one below 🠟I got from Lollies in Shipshewana. Aren't they just adorable, I fell in love on the spot! More wall hangings will be made. It's my birthday week so I didn't feel to guilty buying more fabric!

Fabric Acqusitions

 Friday I took a trip up north a couple hours, I took a friend long for some much needed chatting/ear bending time while shopping.  Yes shopping, fabric stores and quilt shops.  I felt the need to replenish a few quilt panels for fall for next year. You will have to tilt your head for the one on the left:0  But won't they make great little wall hangings?  It will be hard not to dig right in but I need to concentrate on Christmas/winter items right now. 

One more beauty, the fall wreath grabbed me too.  But then onto Christmas with a red truck in a wreath, on no I wasn't going to pass that up even though I have plenty of Christmas/winter panels to use. There might have been some yardage in red and greens bought too, but I already folded them and put them away. They were just staples to replenish the stash.

And then I finished up this cardinal panel wall hanging.

Everything from the gold out I added.  

Just look at that cardinal eyeing you!

Design Wall Mondays

Holiday table runner using panel blocks

 If you follow me you know that I love working with panels.  And I do have a number of them and I wanted to just play one day.  After looking through most (I thought) of them I picked out a piece that had several coordinating blocks, Holiday Homecoming for Henry Glass. What could be better than snowflakes and snowmen.  

After picking three of the blocks and squaring them up I added the gray thin border to bring them up to the size I could work with for the flying geese units.  For these large geese units I used the Fons and Porter flying geese ruler. It worked great for that. 

For the corners of the flying geese units I made a gingham four patch unit.  Put all three blocks together and you have yourself a table runner ready to quilt.

As for the quilting-a little fun custom for this beauty was in order. 

And did you see what I did for the binding...red and black check to match the snowman's coat!

To Do Tuesday #36

 Happy Tuesday to all of you!  I never thought I would stick to making a written goal list this long. It's not that I truly feel the need to write a list as I usually just know, in my head, what I need to do. But this gives me something to blog about.  This was the perfect year to try this out.  I am sure a lot of you out there has struggled this year to blog also.  Sometimes I just don't feel like doing it, so the goal list helps me out.

My goals this week were to make:

• Strawberry table runner-✅
• Quilt snowman table runner-✅
• Gnome runner-✅
• Quilt a panel wall hanging-✅

A strawberry table runner was a custom make for a customer.  There was one in my Etsy shop but it was a bit to long for her so I made to her specifications. 

Snowman table runner for my shop using my Through the Window pattern.  The pattern can be found in my Etsy pattern shop. 

A little different quilting design in the outer border done using rulers on my Nolting FunQuilter.

Another Gnome runner was finished.  You can tell this is a new one because I used a different black/gray stripe in the small border!  This is the third one I have done. 

Another panel all finished on Thursday, listed on Etsy Friday, and sold on Sunday!!  It's on it's way to Alaska. I am on a panel kick for sure right now.  After squaring up the part of the panel I wanted to use(the center portion of this wall hanging), I added the black faux cork like fabric border.  From there I made the flying geese for the tree and green and red pinwheels.  The measurements were not going to allow me to add pinwheels all around so I added in the light background to fill the space.  I really love how this came out.  It was fun working on it, it brought back memories of younger days as I learned to drive an old red pickup on the farm similar to this. I kinda wish I had another panel like this.  

I felt like it was a great week even with all the appointments I had to drive the hubster to.  The last doctor appt was Friday and he is off crutches now and can drive again, thank goodness!! Those were a long 7 weeks.

Two patriotic reversed S swirl runners

Finish another panel that I started yesterday

Two Easter table runners for an order

And if I have time for anything else that would be awesome!

To Do Tuesday #35

 I am always amazed at how fast the week goes, and I think it goes faster after joining in with To Do Tuesday hosted by Roseanne and Sue at HomeSewnByUs each week.  Sometimes I don't feel like I got much done or is it because I have to lofty of a goal?  But once I list it out, usually I don't do to bad!

My goal for this last week was to:

• Finish another wall hanging  ✅
• Work on Two St. Patrick's table runners ✅
• Anything else I had time for✅

The wall hanging finish.  I talk more about it in my last post HERE

I had so much from making the first one that I went on to make up another one using this snowman panel.  I'll give him his own post later this week. 

The St. Patrick table runners are done also. These are for a customer. 

The last goal was to make anything else I had time for.  That goal turned into getting photos and writing up listings for some snowmen dolls, which are now in my Etsy shop.  It was a busy weekend in the shop too, I packaged up three table runners and a purse.

This week will be crazy with hubby making three appt. that I need to drive him to. Plus a couple other errands.  But in the sewing arena I hope to get a strawberry table runner done, quilt up a snowman runner that is already pieced, and make another Gnome runner.  I would love to also quilt up another panel wall hanging.  Perhaps too ambitious, I guess we'll see.

Cornicopia

Yes I am still on a fall making journey!  And not done yet:)   This is the second panel I worked on last week and finished the binding Monday.  This is how the panel looked when I bought it. So pretty isn't it.  But you know what comes next for me...out comes the rotary cutter and I begin chopping it apart;)

Once the squares are all cut to size, they get set aside while I add a solid black border. And then 

I made strip sets of gold, orange and a black with tiny metallic gold specks.  This of course has to equal the size of the small panel squares.   This is a much simpler border treatment than last weeks panel received.  But I think this is still pretty effective. 

For the quilting, straight lines in the gold and orange while the metallic speckled black received some special attention with U turns to set it off even more.  And sticking to my usual interior quilting of a hook swirl finishes this one up nicely I think. 

Keeping this post simple and to the point-another one done.  Onto quilting some table runners today.

Crushing on Fall

Here is the first of the fall panels that I have been working on.  This one is completely done and I am pretty happy with how it turned out.  If you have followed me for a while you know I love to take a panel and add somewhat of a fancy border to them.   Here is what this one looked like after I cut off the scroll line design that was at the top and bottom of the panel.  This one didn't need much straightening up either.  Sometimes panels can be really wonky.  The ones that are easy to straighten are ones with some background so you have area to work with to cut it straight and not loose the design.

Here I have added a 1.5" inner border and a skinnier orange border before I started adding my orange and cream flying geese border.  The black inner border added just the right number of inches to make the geese border come out just right.

The geese have flown into the right formation!

Next came a strip set of cream, orange and another cream for the outer borders.  The corner stones in checked orange and black pull it all together.  The black binding completes this wall hanging at about 38 x 32.

And of course it had to have some fun custom quilting!  I like to keep the interior panel piece simple with hook swirl freehand quilting.   

The borders got the fun stuff quilted on them.  My favorite ones to do are the U turns in the orange geese and a loop in the cream geese.  Another favorite is the ribbon candy that encompassed the orange and cream strip borders that is centered in between some straight line quilting. 

 I will definitely use this border treatment again on another panel.  In fact it might be used on the identical panel that I found in my stash.  I either forgot I had bought one before heading to Paducah or I just really like it that much I bought another, LOL  Well the other one has a black background so it will look a bit different;)

I did get some sewing done this weekend-on other upcoming projects.   I hope you managed to get some in also.   It was so humid here it was no fun to go out and do anything.  Oh wait I have one more thing to show you that I made this weekend.

I have been wanting to get back at beading bracelets.  There are so many cute ones on pinterest and this was a pattern from Reggies Creations on Etsy.  So I decided to purchase the pattern after discovering I had some beads that would work perfectly!  It was fun and easy to do.  A nice break from sewing too:)

Let it Snow-panel

This is the original panel...

And this is what I did to it.  I cut off the little pictures, added green sashing to the left side of the big panel. Little green sashings were added in between the little ones next and added to the left side of the big panel. There is a tinge of gray in the panel so I chose red and grey for the flying geese top and bottom borders surrounded by a green border.   I want to encourage you all to get a panel and try some different things with it.  It really is so fun to come up with a new look!

Quilting is always a fun part for me.  Here is how I chose to quilt this one.

I tend to do a lot of stitch in the ditch, I think it makes the piece lie so much flatter. So I SID before doing the interior quilting in that area.

A busy week

Sometimes I even amaze myself with the amount of stuff I can get done in a week!  This was one of those weeks-very productive.

Yesterday I managed to cut and piece these three wall hangings. The snowmen were all on one pre-printed panel.  I added everything else.  I had done some similar ones a couple years ago and these were left so they got pretty much the same treatment as far as pinwheels and borders. And the pinwheels, I am happy to say, are leftover flip and sew corners from past projects.  Love it when I can use what I have and still make something nice.

Wednesday a wonderful friend volunteered to come help me get a start on snowmen for the craft shows.  I cut while she sewed, we ended up with parts for 58 snowmen in 5 different styles.  I will finish them up little by little in time for a late October delivery to a craft show. 

But wait that's not all.  I also finished sewing buttons on more fleece sweaters and labeled them along with regular sweaters. A couple of them may look like repeats. however, they are just different sizes in the same colors/prints.  When I buy yardage of the fleece I get several from the same print.

                                      

It would appear I am on a navy kick wouldn't it.  But that is the color that sells the best.  I think it is because the designs show up so nicely on them. Once again these range from a 9 month to a 4 year. My boy supply was pretty low so this helped beef that up a bit.  I have now added 14 knitted items to my craft show box-ahhh that feels good!  I only have two more fleece to sew up and then I have to figure out how to fix some dropped stitches on another navy sweater, it's the edge stitches which make it a harder task.

Last night I packaged up another table runner for an Etsy sale, and today I will work on 2 more panels.

QAL, panel, nine patches, meet up

A busy week, starting this, working on this, and then starting another-ever have one of those weeks(or two)?  I did have the finishes for Henry Glass Desire to Inspire which you can see HERE, But I started too many things these past 2-3 weeks. I just couldn't settle down and stick with one project.

At one time a friend gave me a bunch of cut pieces of older fabric, they went into the closet at the time. In the cleaning of my sewing room the past couple months, I came across them and laid them out to take a better look at. Earlier this week I did that and found they were not all 2.5" sqs like I thought. So I trimmed them to 2.25" to have a consistent size, cut some yardage of cream to add to them. Now I am not up on what original 30's fabrics are like, but I think these might be them. These are very thin fabric and just look really old.  I am not one to preserve, but to use. What good are they if they just sit in a box or drawer. So I am sewing them up. Here is what I have so far after a few minutes here and there. It is amazing how much sewing you can get done if it's all cut out.  I am thinking I will sash them, we'll see when they are all pieced.  I will keep them close to the sewing machine for when I just have a few minutes and need to sew:)

Another afternoon I picked these fabrics from the stash to cut for Sandra's Freefall QAL that I want to participate in for the next couple months. She says you can still sign up if you want to check it out.  I chose fall colors for leafs and black for my background.

Yesterday a friend came over so we could take this panel apart and rearrange using only some of the panel to make a wall hanging.  She had 2 of these panels and gave me one as a bribe to help her make one for herself, LOL  She's a dear friend and we have had many good sewing/knitting/crafting times together, so I was more than happy to help her plan it out.  

After cutting, rearranging, adding more fabric from my stash, we each have one almost identical. I didn't have enough of this red, so she used a different one.  So many people are afraid to use a panel, don't be. Just start cutting and adding sashing, borders, and pieced blocks. It's so fun to create with them I think!  Now I have to add mine really is squared up but it is obviously laying crooked on my flannel design wall.  Oh the panel and stash fabrics are all flannel too.

Notice, I added spacers in between the pinwheels, the first purpose of this is to make the piece just the right size to fit together. BUT. it also makes the pinwheels stand out individually.  We had a very fun day!

Another fun think I did this week-I met up with blog friend Wendy from http://www.piecefulthoughts.com/.  She lives just north of me an hour, so I picked her up and we went to a fabric shop called SR Harris-fun fun fun.  Then we had lunch and went to DickBlick and Ikea. All the while we were nonstop chattering. Sometimes you meet people and you either click or you don't, we sure clicked right away!!!  After I got home I emailed her and said well shoot we didn't even get a pic of us together-we agreed we didn't have time as we were talking so much, LOL We'll be getting together again for sure.  I think this is now four blog friends I have met in person.

Ok I think it is time I get busy. Today I am making a backdrop for taking pic's of my quilts outside. I'll tell you more about that later.
