Wiggles and Sunshine

It's Wiggle Time!  That's the name of this pattern by Cynthia.  I have made this one a few times as it is fun and a fast one to whip up.  I just had to take a day and do something other than a table runner:)

These rainy days make it very hard to get a good photo, but these are some bright orange, green and yellow colors, almost neon.  This one will remain a flimsy for now and reside in the donation quilt tops pile until I get time to prepare a backing for it.  It measures at 48"x54".  It was just what I needed for a break:)

And then I was ready to get back at table runners, but which one.  I looked through photos and decided I needed to do another Morning Star Accuquilt runner.  Remember I did a tutorial for them last year for this runner.  It looks complicated with lots of pieces but it really isn't, using the dies makes all the difference. The previous ones look almost identical as they were from the same fabrics or nearly the same.  I just think the yellows make it look like sunshine!

Baby quilts

For this year's contribution to Hands 2 Help or H2H hosted by the wonderful Sarah of Confessions of a Fabric Addict I put together these three baby quilts.

My daughter in law gave me some fabric that was her grandmas, the blue squares are from that. I added the pinwheels from my stash. I think her grandma would approve of these quilts being donated.  The backing fabric is flannel in some bright funky colors that my local friend gave me when she was cleaning out unwanted fabric. So this little quilt was a win win:)

These next two quilts were made using the creative grids Half Rectangle ruler which made them a breeze.  There are lots of possibilities for layouts.

Both of these have flannel backings, also from the same friend. A freehand all over meander keeps these quilts snuggly soft. I will be donating these locally to the Crisis Nursery Center.

I will be linking up at Sarah's when she opens up the final linkup for H2H.  Sarah suggested we make a quilt for our hometown hero also, I am still working on that one.

Gingham Goodness

Have you noticed how gingham is all over the place these days?  I love it!  And then Nancy from Grace and Peace Quilting kept showing the gingham quilts she has been quilting, ooh la la, I fell in love with it even more.  So I had to try making it into a table runner. I cut my strips at 3" x WOF and made strip sets and then cut those in 3" increments. After quilting my table runner is 42" x 12 1/2".

I love that I even had a green cup for staging! Actually I drink coffee from that cup almost everyday.   I had been thinking I was going to applique some flowers onto this finished runner. But now that it is done I decided to just leave it as is. It's fun to just drop everything and try something new!

I guess you could say this was a DrEAMi moment so I'll link up with Sandra too.

Fruit Salad

This post is all about fruity table runners. You might have seen these before, well actually you haven't seen these very ones because they were all made this week. But you have seen others that look like them:)

First up is this cherry one. I hadn't made one of these in a while so it was really fun to dig out the cherry border fabric and the backing fabric.  The actual cherry block is a tutorial from Podunk Pretties.  One could easily use scraps for the cherries and leaves.

I might have just squealed a bit when I found this sweet little black and white gingham at JoAnn's last year.  It's smaller than the one I had been using on several other runners last year.

The backing cherry fabric I found at a great sale price.  Usually I try to use WOF for my table runners, so I needed to add a pretty red in this one to make it larger.  But pieced backings add more interest to the piece don't you think?

Next up is a watermelon table runner.  This time I pieced the entire watermelon, the ones I made before had bias (that I made) for the rind.  In the end I wish I had ran the rind up along the sides of the watermelon, it would look more complete.  Green scraps came in handy for the rinds.

One might think I was hung up on gingham and you would be correct! Oh and don't forget polka dots!!! The red border is the size of gingham I usually can find locally pretty easy.

Yes I even had the watermelon seed fabric fat quarter in my stash!!

And a quick pineapple with all scraps for the pineapple itself.

Today I am linking with Oh Scrap!, Monday with Design Wall Monday, Monday Making, and Patchwork and Quilts

Born To Be Wild!

Today is the last day on the Born To Be Wild blog hop and I get to showcase my project today!  Carol, from Just Let Me Quilt, always has such fun hops that I just can't resist:)  The song 'Born To Be Wild' by Steppenwolf has been playing over and over in my head while I was working on my project!

I am a giraffe lover and I had this panel in my stash for a couple years and this was the perfect time to get it made up.  I am pretty sure it is a digital print and as I was quilting it I could almost feel his fur! And look at those eyelashes!!

I was so worried that I wouldn't get a good outdoor photo with our trees in the background as it has been so misty/rainy for the past couple days.  But there was a little break yesterday afternoon.

Right after purchasing this panel I saw a free pattern for the borders of it and thought it was really neat and different. I had pinned it on my Pinterest page, and then last week when I needed it, it was no longer a valid link for the giraffe panel.  Instead it was on a tiger panel of a different size!  Oh no what to do.  But after reading it over it seemed pretty straight forward, the only difference was the the length of the side and top borders. The corners stayed the same, so I was back in business!  You can find the border pattern HERE.  I think they changed the panel of it again!

Since this piece is for me I spent extra time on it and custom quilted it on my long arm.  I love custom quilting, this used rulers for all the straight lines and SID (stitch in the ditch) and the wishbones are freehanded.  My favorite freehand allover hook swirls on the panel itself.

I named this wall hanging Mommy and Me, it will hang behind my long arm.

This hop has been so inspiring hasn't it.  I do hope you have had the chance to visit all the other bloggers that are participating.  If not here is the list of them all.  Thank you Carol for another great hop!!

Yummy Pineapple

Pictures are a good thing to have.  I love looking back at all the table runners I have made, it helps me realize what I might need to remake.  My pineapple table runner needed to get remade and in the shop since it is an everyday type, meaning you can decorate with it all year long.

The pineapple is made using 2.5" squares from scraps.  I have a little bag of gold/yellows all precut so it is easy to whip up one of these one when I need it.

The piecing was done Friday morning and the quilting followed in the afternoon.  The pineapple block was found through a Pinterest link.

Yesterday I worked on my blog hop project. May 21st is my day on the Born To Be Wild blog hop, I hope you will come back to see my 'Wild' project.  It might involve this guy... OMG he is soooo cute!
The hop starts tomorrow, you can find the info and participants HERE.

Swirling card tricks

No I am not playing cards, although I have played a game or two from time to time.  This table topper is called Swirling Card Trick.  If you have followed me for a while you have seen some I have made before. These are three new ones, they are kind fun to see come together from strip sewing and then cutting the angles at 45 degrees.  The first part is really easy, and with paying attention the rest of it is easy too.  The problem started when I cut the little triangles with a height of 4 1/2" instead of 4 1/4", believe me this makes a huge difference and doesn't leave you with pretty work!  I had a wonky mess going on before I discovered my mistake.  Let's say Jack and I became real buddies one evening!!

I always tend to quilt these the same with a freehand hook swirl, it's easy and effective. If it ain't broke don't fix it, right?

I went on to make this one.

And this one, it's so fun to pick four fabrics that coordinate together.

I kind of like this last one the best of these three. Which is your favorite?   Well I am off to quilt a couple more table runners, and maybe bind one.  The other one will need applique.  And I need to plan and make a project for the upcoming blog hop Born to Be Wild, my day is May 21st.

Weekend sewing

Friday I pieced two ladybug table runners, a yellow one and a green one.  And I still had time left to piece another patriotic one.

On Saturday I quilted the green ladybug runner while joining in Saturday Sew In with the Inquiring Quilter Facebook group.

And for those of you that like seeing the quilting;)  I did not quilt the yellow one yet, but I will get it done this week.  The green one sold already!  I might need to get a little more of that fabric, it is pretty cute.

And then I went on to quilt the patriotic one, it's very similar to one I did a little while ago. But this one has a different print for binding.  And I will be doing another one this week as this too sold over the weekend. I am okay with that these runners are so fun and rewarding to make.

This was from a tutorial from Missouri star, however I made my own version of the star and I used striped fabric instead of making stripes.

It's Monday so I will be linking up with these linky parties:

scrap winnings plus...

Way back during the early days of this year Selina from Selina Quilts was giving away some fabric scraps.  Those who waved their hand got sent a box of scrappy goodness!  I was one of those people.  Since we were gone at the time I had her send it to my daughters and I picked it up when we got back home.  Just look at all that red and blue, I see patriotic in a bit of it don't you?  There was even a little stack of 4 inch squares already cut, that might just be a hint;)  There was even a patriotic fabric that is big enough for the back of one of my runners, which you might get to see later this week if I get it quilted.

And as if that wasn't enough, a few months later Selina participated in the Kitchen Stitchin blog hop. She was showing her dish mat and towels that she made.  If we left a comment we were entered into her giveaway. Well guess what!!!  I won!!  She asked me what color I would like, I said I would use these in my fifth wheel and I decorate in teals with a dash of brown.  OMG you guys these are just perfect for it!  Can't wait to use them.  Thank you so much Selina, you are very generous!

Wishing all Mothers everywhere a Happy Mother's Day!!

A gift for Mom-Accuquilt tutorial

As a Go! Getter for Accuquilt I recently had the opportunity to create a tutorial for the Accuquilt blog.  They have a new die for a tea/coffee cup, which they provided for me.  The tutorial is for a mug rug, a gift for mom.  It was so fun to whip up something so small and quick.  You can check out the tutorial HERE.  It requires just a few scraps.

There is a little pocket to hold a tea bag or two.  Put it in a matching cup and you have a quick gift.  If you leave off the words you have a fun gift for a teacher or friend.

Strawberry fields and panel challenge

I don't know about all of you, but I am dreaming of summer sunshine🌞 and strawberries🍓!  I bet all of you are too.  Can you just taste the yummy sweetness?

On Saturdays, when it fits in my schedule, I join the Inquiring Quilter Facebook group for Saturday Sew In. This past Saturday was going to be 80 degrees here, perfect day for being outside. The hubby and I went for a nice bike ride in the morning and then I set to work clearing out a flowerbed in preparation for planting some posies I bought on Friday.  Later in the afternoon I started sewing this strawberry table runner.  The quilting and binding was done on Monday.

But before I could ever start it I spent at least half of an hour searching for the zip lock baggy with leftover red squares.  Now I used to keep it right on my counter top, but back in December I got the bright idea to move things around😏.  I thought I might have put it in the closet with a bunch of other WIPS/UFO's.  I looked and looked and came up with nothing. Looked elsewhere, nothing. So I went back to the closet and started to pull out all of two shelves determined that I had put it in there. I emptied the first shelf with no luck, started on the second and bam, there it was!  The ironic part is I was only inches from it the first time😛.  I am just sure none of you have ever experienced that!

Now it's back to more red white and blue, pretty much more of ones I have already done.

Don't forget the voting polls are now open for all the panel challenge entries at Prairie Moon Quilts.  I might have entered two.  One of them is Harvest Puzzle that I blogged about HERE.  The other is this patriotic wall hanging.

The center with the flag and fireworks is the panel and I added red borders, friendship stars and outer borders of coordinating patriotic prints. Simple additions to a panel make it shine a bit.

There are 40+ entries in the challenge, it's so fun to see what everyone came up with to make their panel unique.
