Repeats

 The past few days had me remaking the same designs, sometimes with different fabrics.  Another cupcake runner in patriotic used a different backing fabric. It wasn't wide enough so I added another star piece to the middle. 

Another of my original stars and stripes runner. This was one that was pieced last summer and leftover. I like finding leftovers from last year because it is a quick finish!

I had the fabrics picked for this one last year and didn't get around to cutting it out. That also speeds up the process when I don't have to hunt for all the fabrics!

I pieced the backing to use up some fat quarters.

And this one is giving me fits-I can't for the life of me get the colors to photograph right. The dark greens are supposed to be a dark sage color and everything I have tried just gives me a dark forest green. If anyone has any suggestions please tell me! I want to get it listed in my shop and without the right colors I can't!

I intended to write this post last night and time got away from me. I did start something new yesterday and hope to have it finished over the weekend, we'll see.

Finishing patriotic topper

 Yes I am back to my regular sewing/quilting room and it's now time to kick it in gear and finish things. It's getting to be Patriotic season so I need to add items to the shop. First up is a round wedge topper which I pieced on Friday and quilted and bound it Saturday.

I thought maybe you would like to see it on the longarm with the quilting progress. I pin the backing fabric onto the longarm leaders and lay batting and the topper on that. Basting around the edges of the first half of the topper holds it in place.  Do you see the large bar type magnets on the right side of the photo, they hold the unbasted top in place while I quilt the top half of it. 

I bought a bolt of red/white print fabric from Marshall Dry Goods. I love this for backings for my red table runners.  Buying a bolt from them is very inexpensive, but you do have to pay postage but it is still a very good price.

Sara inspired me with all the cleaning/sorting she has been doing so I cleaned up a little area that had leftover bindings scattered about. They are now all corralled up into one container. Just perhaps I will use some of them up.  While in the process of that I uncovered some patriotic UFO runners.  Putting borders on these didn't take long and they are now on the longarm getting their quilting treatment.

Happy July

Last year our local longarm group decided on a challenge. We were to all use the same pattern to make a wall hanging size quilt. Any color could be added to a neutral fabric. Our group bought three types of batting, bamboo, silk and wool. We each got to pick which we would like to work with. I choose bamboo. The idea was to see how it quilted up. We used a tutorial from Missouri Star to piece this, but for the life of me I cannot recall the name of it. 

We could quilt it however we wanted. For the large neutral corner squares I used a template for the center star and then used a ruler to stitch 1/2" away from that for the next round and then another 1/2" away from that for the third round. 

The four patch units called for two rows of continuous curve stitching with a template. The blue star points were three straight lines made with a ruler and echoing the triangles. The red has two curved lines to coordinate with the four patches.

Finishes and blogger issues

I did crank out a couple of finishes this week. The quilting machine was purring right along on Monday and Tuesday and binding happened on Wednesday and Thursday.  These were pieced during the winter. 

Actually I pieced four identical to this one but only quilted two. And only one of those two got the binding on for a complete finish.  The other ones will wait in the wings until I need them for my Etsy shop. I went on the hunt in my stash for a backing, I almost got lost in my box of homespuns. But I came up with the perfect piece that was big enough for these two. 

Recently I posted about working on yellow and white blocks, several of you were anxious to see what they would become. Ta da!!  Here it is. I pieced two of these over the winter and quilted both this week. Once again I only bound one of them.  These are made using the Morning Star Accuquilt BOB die. It makes easy work of cutting and piecing the little triangles. I wouldn't attempt them without the die.

Blogger issues...I used to be able to click the notify me box that you see when you go to make a comment and that way all of your comments came into my email.  In the last two months that hasn't worked. Well shoot I sometimes(ok a lot of the time) forget to check back here on the blog to read comments. I mean a girl(quilter) has lots of things to do and we can't remember them all, LOL.  Is this issue of not getting comments in your email happening to you also?  Anyone heard of a fix for this?

Triple Patriotic toppers

I'm thinking ahead to another season, a patriotic season which extends from Memorial Day thru Labor Day. If you are one of my followers you have seen the first two styles many times in different fabrics. If you happen to be here for the first time, I love making these styles for my Etsy shop.  These were made this past week. First up my stars and stripes table runner.

 

Of course I had to whip up one of my wedge round toppers too. I had the hardest time photographing this one, the blues just didn't want to come out right. But this morning I used my phone and it worked much better.

And now for the last one, it's a new design for me!!  OMG it was so fun to try out a new ruler and pattern!  The design is a free one from Krista Moser called Swirling star. It comes together quickly with strip piecing and the Creative Grids 60 degree diamond ruler. 

The quilting on this one took a bit of time but I love how it came out. Ruler work, U turns and a little stippling set this one off nicely I think. 

All three of the runners I have shown in this post have the same backing fabric. I bought a bolt of it from Marshall Dry Goods, very happy with it.  Soon I will have to piece more backings to use up some other leftovers though. Plus pieced backings always make a fun unique look.

I hope you all are having a fun week whether you are quilting, on a road trip or doing something else. Here is something else fun happening in our yard... wild turkeys have been traversing between us and a few neighbors each day. They are trying to find some food that fell from our deer feeder. Each night we have been watching them fly up to the tree tops to roost for the night. They take a small running step and up the go, for such big birds they do pretty well. We counted up to 14 one night.  This was taken a couple weeks ago, since then a bit of this snow has melted.

And of course the deer are still almost a daily occurrence. There is at least six in this photo, you have to look out into the tree line to see three of them.  We enjoy watching the wildlife:)

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July to all my North America peeps!  My seasonal corner is red, white and blue all ready for celebrating the 4th of July.  At the top of the photo is a flag cross stitch that I did several years ago. It's mounted in a blue frame with wooden red, white and blue stars glued to the frame.  A panel quilt that I pieced is hung in the quilt hanger with a wooden star garland hung on it's pegs.  Several wooden decorations sit on my treadle sewing machine. Stuffed patriotic Raggedy Ann and Andy( which I made)  sit on top of a felt patriotic heart penny rug made by me. 

This weekend we celebrated our grand daughters 1st birthday, went for a nice bike ride yesterday and we've been shopping for a new refrigerator.  I hope to get a quilt pinned on the longarm and maybe even start quilting it.  Of course there will be fireworks tonight.  What are you doing for the Fourth celebration?

Oh boy, I am just tired after a busy week, how about you?  I met almost all on my list for the week. Let's take a peek.

5. Two patriotic runners. ✅ Yep done, blogged about one on Friday and the other is the same design with fabric I previously used.  I am sure you are tired of seeing the very same!!!!  

6.Quilt and bind small lap quilt. Almost, I quilted it, still needs binding.  I'll finish and blog about it later. 

7. Set up Feedly. ✅ Yes I did it with the help of Diann, thanks Diann!

And to finish off the week I finished 3 other table runners.  I'll show you those tomorrow.  So now you know why I said I am tired!!

My hubby transplanted our peony bushes two years ago, they are now in full sun and we have blooms for the first time. We both grew up with our moms having peonies and we loved them too. 

Weekly Goals- To Do Tuesday

 Another week has rolled around and a few more things have been accomplished!  It's time to check out my goals from last week.

• Finish Accuquilt Tutorial due on Friday ✅  Yes it is done but I can't show you until it hits their blog on June 4th.

• Make two table runners with new fabric I bought last week ✅  They are all done and all sold already! The first one with new bee fabric was kinda a request from a repeat customer.  She asked if I could do coasters with specific bee fabric. I didn't have it but I went shopping and found a different bee fabric.  Made it into this table runner and sent her the photo and she said it was perfect to go with her new bee decor and bought the runner 10 minutes later!  Here is the first runner of the new fabric.

And this is the second of a new fabric. So what's a girl to do with fabric with lemons but make a table runner out of it!  It was in my Etsy shop for two days and it sold also. I'm so happy that I can another since I bought fabric for more than one of them:)  I heard lemons were a new home decor item this year so I want to be prepared a little.  Both the bee and the lemon are from a GE designs table runner book.

• Quilt and bind a patriotic table runner ✅  Same design but different fabrics than previous patriotic runners. 

• Bind two donation quilts ✅  Finished and blogged about HERE.

• Make whatever else I wanted ✅  I guess that would be the three gingham table runners I blogged about for Table Scraps HERE

I met all the goals and still had time to visit the amish greenhouse with a friend. I was able to pick up the tomatoes and green pepper plants. And then it was time to turn my eye to some pretty posies.  When I saw this beautiful petunia hanging basket I was in love!  I wasn't planning on getting one, I usually just get the plants and make my own but they would take a long time to get even half this size.  This one is almost 24" across from bloom to bloom! And the price was really good at only $24.  

And this beautiful dahlia blossom is huge and has two more buds on it.  She is about 18" high now and almost full grown, so it says.

And the rest of the teeny posies I bought that day are all planted. Some will go on the front porch as they are shade plants and the rest on the deck which is the south side of the house.

I am ready for a lighter week, it's my birthday week.  If the weather would cooperate I would love to go for a bike ride someday. No big plans but it seems like we should do something as it's my 65th!  Good grief when did I get so old, LOL, I mean I still feel 35, haha.

So the only goals I am setting this week are:

• Make another bee table runner
• Make another lemon table runner

Weekly goals and finishes

 Where or where did this past week go...zip zoom it's gone!!  Let's check and see what did I cross off this list this week.  Here are the goals I set.

• start working on a tutorial for Accuquilt ✅
• that's enough, I want time built in to maybe play a bit with whatever I want ✅

The hand embroidered quilt did indeed get quilted, bound, listed and sold!!  

The Valentine runner did not progress at all.  It will get done at a later date. No hurry for it, although I do sell things out of season so someday it will get listed. 

On Friday I shared the finished watermelon table runner, if you missed it you can see it HERE.  I showed my customer and she loved it and bought it a minute later.  So I made another on Saturday. It's almost the same, however I used a with w/black polka dot for the background on this one along with a red binding.

The tutorial I am doing for Accuquilt got started, I can't show you anything yet except for the fabrics I am using for it. 

I also set aside time to work on anything else I wanted.  I needed another of these patriotic table runners.  If you look closely you will see I used two different fabrics in this one, the blue and the white, last weeks can be see HERE.

Since the embroidered wall hanging sold, it encouraged me to start another embroidered block.

 

This week I have way more things that need making than I have time for I think.  But here is the list of what I would like to accomplish.

• Sunflower table runner
• Green gingham table runner
• Strawberry table runner
• Pineapple table runner
• Continue on embroidery project
• Continue on Accuquilt tutorial
• Make project for Foodie Blog hop- My day is May 23rd

To Do Tuesday

Another week has rolled around for To Do Tuesday over at Texas Quilt Gal.  Let's check out what I put on my to do list last week and see what I accomplished or not;)

• Finish a couple of table runners ✅
• Piece a Patriotic Welcome wall hanging- not done, not even started
• Sunflower table runner ✅
• Anything else I want to ✅

This patriotic one was made using Deb Tuckers Rapid Fire Hunter Star ruler.  Easy enough to do but there is a lot of trimming involved. But I like the result.

                              

While the patriotic fabrics were out I decided to do a red, white and blue version from the Anka's Treasure book.  It's like the one I showed on Friday in modern fabrics. 

Ya just got to do what you are in the mood to do, you know.  A patriotic version of the S swirl runner. 

Up next was to do a sunflower runner. Yes this is a new one just like ones I have done in the past:)

Anything else I wanted to do was filled by the two runners I showed you on Sunday, if you missed those you can see them HERE.  Another thing I finished wasn't on the list...the latest pair of socks.  I started these while in Arizona. 

It was a productive week.  Will this one be I don't know, come back next week to check it out.  On the list to do is:

• Start a new embroidery project
• Start a new pair of socks
• Patriotic Welcome wall hanging
• An applique stars patriotic table runner

I think I will stop there as I just am not feeling productive this morning.  But if time, energy and desire kicks in I will just make whatever I feel like!!
