Another quilt story

Continuing with UFO finishes is this hexie quilt. After winning these Tula fabrics several years ago I started this Opposites Attract pattern from Anka's Treasure's Sizzling Sixties book.  It didn't work opposites didn't attract, I really do not like this quilt and I have no idea what I was thinking!!

While I like some of the fabrics in it, there are some I really don't like!  That made it hard to finish it. I don't have a record of when I started it, maybe 7 years ago, but it grew in stages and then got stuck back in timeout shifting from spot to spot around the room. This year I got tired of it and in a couple of different spurts over the last 3 months I finished it.

Perhaps I should have studied it a little better before I set out to sew it into columns, because where I left off last is not how it ended up!!  I hope the recipient doesn't care and just enjoys a warm quilty hug. I know I am glad to be done with it.  The pattern actually doesn't have the blue 'border', it wanted you to bind around the pointy hexies, no way was I doing that!

I finally found my laser light for my longarm, it had fallen down on the floor with a bunch of batting scraps.  Hubby got it attached for me and I quilted this with a panto called Sprung(I think).  While I really enjoy free hand quilting, I really wanted to use some panto's once in a while just to be different;)

This quilt will be used for a donation quilt for the H2H 2023 quilt challenge going on now. That pile is growing and it feels wonderful!

H2H check in

The Hands2Help or H2H is well underway for this year, this is hosted by the lovely Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  Today is our first check in to see how we are doing with this years challenge. I have posted each of these quilts individually before but grouping them together for the sake of the check in.

For a grand total of four finishes so far, I hope to do one or two more. Linking with H2H check in, and Oh Scrap!

May One Monthly Goal for Hands 2 Help

I am so happy to say I finished my One Monthly Goal  hosted by Elm Street Quilts.  At the beginning of every month we can enter a challenge stating one of our goals we would like to get done, blog about it and join the linky party at Elm Street Quilts. Then at the end of the month if you meet your goal you link up again.

I had two quilts to quilt and bind for my one monthly goal for May.   This half rectangle one was fun and easy to make using a HRT ruler from Creative Grids.  And didn't I have the perfect backing for it!!  A friend gave me that, it's flannel and the stitches just sink into it. It's quilted with yellow Glide. I did have to add a strip of yellow flannel to make it wide enough.  And the perfect striped binding!!

This next quilt has a ton of scraps of all different colors.  It might be a good guy quilt since it leans to the darker side.

Both of these quilts are getting donated for the Hands2Help 2022 project. I love making quilts and donating them to give someone a little quilty hug.  I never know who the recipients are, but I just hope they love getting a quilt to let them know that someone cares.  I will be donating my quilts locally to Families First Crisis Nursery Center.

Hands2Help-One Monthly Goal

Just a short post today to announce my One Monthly Goal.  I need to finish this two quilts for the Hands2Help challenge hosted this year by the Academic Quilter.  It's such a worthy cause that I can't help by join in each year.  If you are joining in this year how are you doing on your quilts?  I just need to get the backings ready and quilt them up.  I'll be donating mine locally.

Donation quilt progress

I have been working on HRT's, half rectangle triangles that is.  The creative Grids ruler I am using makes the process so easy. No trimming.

First I decided on cutting 8" strips of 5 different colors with two prints from each color way.  And then cutting 8" strips of the background fabric.  I love quilts with white in them for the background, but for donation quilts one never knows where they will go and if they have the ability to keep them clean. So I thought choosing this floral print with white would help it show less white but still give me the style I like.

As I was making it I thought I could either make two smaller quilts or one small lap size given the number of HRT's I cut. I chose to do two smaller quilts.  The first layout is the one above and this is the second one. I like them both!  These will make great baby quilts for twins! These will finish at 37" square.

I am thrilled to have two baby quilts pieced. These might just be perfect to use as donations for Hands2Help hosted by Sarah at Confessions of A Fabric Addict.  I will piece a few more before I quilt them all at the same time.

Green and Beige quilt

Here is the last of my quilts for this year's Hands2Help donations.  As with the last two, this one was also a top languishing in the closet. It patiently waited till I was ready to quilt it, wasn't that nice of it:0

All the fabrics were in my stash including a nice piece of tan flannel for the back.  This one has poly batting and I used the fast dog bone meander again so it would get done in time.  I see this is the only picture I took of it yesterday and now it is getting ready to rain, so that's it folks!

This one will also be taken to the local Crisis Nursery Center next week.  It feels wonderful to have these three out of my closet!  I never know when the time or mood strikes to create more, so if it happens this year I will stock pile for next year's donations.  I mean every once in a while I have to make something other than table runners and items for the craft shows, got to have that balance.

Thanks Sarah for hosting H2H and getting us all in gear and using our stash!  Linking with Sarah Sunday, May 20th for the linky party.

Another H2H quilt

Here is my second donation quilt for Hands2Help.  Since I had a few tops in my stash that I had made for donation purposes, I figured now would be a good time to quilt and bind them.  This one will also be donated locally to the Crisis Nursery Center.

Early last year I had pieced several quilts using wider strips to make the jelly roll race quilts.  A good blog buddy, Jasmine, came up with this idea.  So much fun!  I made several in Mauve and blue fabrics to use up from days gone by:0  These blues are all apple prints.

I had the perfect piece of fleece to go with it, and the perfect size.   This is a small quilt at 36 x 45.

Yesterday I had a few people mention how sad to think that any child should have to use the Crisis Nursery Center, I couldn't agree with you more.  The center is for children and families dealing  with child abuse. Every child is so innocent and to think they sometimes get caught in between bad situations is heart breaking.  They all need to feel loved and cared for.  In giving these quilts to the center they can distribute to those who need it, my small way of giving a child a hug.  Last year I donated 32 quilts to this center, the lady who works there was just thrilled to pieces and said their supply was almost non existent right then.  Boy did that ever make me glad I chose to donate there.

I will be linking up with Sarah on Sunday for the Hands2Help linky party to see what we have all accomplished.  You can find more information on Sarah's blog HERE.
Also linking with Tish for UFO busting since this is a true UFO!

Hands2Help quilt

I am really late to the party of Hands2Help quilts, but better late than never.  This year I decided I wasn't going to be able to make as many donation quilts as I have in the past couple years. But I still wanted to do at least one for H2H that Sarah  heads up.

After going through my stash of tops, yes I have a few left from last year,  I was able to pull out this one and get it quilted yesterday and bound it today.

I kept the quilting simple with a dog bone meander.  With simple allover quilting and a soft flannel backing this quilt will be cuddly to some child who needs a bit of comfort.  I am choosing to donate mine to the local Crisis Nursery Center.
