Happy Halloween!!

 

The extent of my Halloween decorating is this nook in our main entry way.

Snowman, StarStruck and Hocus Pocus!

 I have been very busy this week. Two of these Snow Dudes have been pieced and one quilted. 

I finished up this blue Starstruck table runner.

Then onto piecing two Gnome runners and I even pieced their backings! Maybe I'll be quilting them while you are reading this;)

Hubby was gone so I had a bit of extra time last night and I finished making this stitchin' into a little pillow.  I stitched this a couple years ago as a SAL with Primrose Cottage. Between the Aida cloth and the fabric I added a colorful ribbon from my card making supply. It didn't want to stitch right so I glued it on. 

Just the right addition to my little Halloween display.

Halloween #1

Before we left for vacay way back in mid July I just couldn't resist working on the Halloween panel I found in a shop up north.  It was just such a fun whimsical panel that made me smile. I had 4 days in between trips so in between doing laundry, getting groceries and repacking a camper I dug into designing this wall hanging and couldn't stop until it was all pieced. 

I absolutely love how it turned out. The panel and the spiderweb border fabric were the only new ones, the rest came from my stash.

And here it is all quilted up since we got back home last weekend.

More Fun Was Had

The fun continued after visiting our son and DIL we went on to a lake to have fun with our daughter and family. Some relaxing, some boating, some fishing, some just hanging out. This was the view from their cabin, we were in our camper in a not so inviting spot so we hung out at their area(while they were there) more.

After they all had to return home to go back to work hubby and I spent time in our ATV on the trails.

The main reason we went on these trails was to look for Juneberries as we had seen them last year. And indeed we found them and they were all over the place!!!  They are so yummy. We ate a bunch and then got serious picking so we could bring home and make jam at a later date, we froze them for now.  As we were picking them we looked down and wow, there were wild blueberries too!!  Yep some of them came home with us too, I will make muffins with those.

And we went back another day and picked more!

And we had time to pick some wild raspberries too, once again everywhere you looked there were bunches of them. And even more Juneberries made it into our bucket:) I think we have a gallon and a half. 

Since this is a quilting blog here is one of the panels I bought this past week. Isn't that a cute haunted house?  I think it will be fun to customize it into a sweet wall hanging.  But I think I will work on the other one first since it is several smaller haunted houses. So stay tuned, it might be a couple weeks;)

Tuesday weekly goals

Hey there, hope you all have had a wonderful week of sewing therapy.  I needed lots of therapy this week, lots of sleepless nights, darn full moon!  

Anyway last weeks goals were lofty in hindsight but I did pretty well with them.

1. I made another Halloween flimsy yesterday so it needs quilting ASAP. ✅ 

Yes it is quilted, bound and listed. I am pretty sure I bought this panel a year ago at Quilt Cove in the Twin Cities.  The twisted ribbon border was a new one for me to make.  And there is that cute Candy Corn fabric I picked up at Walmart. It finished at 30"x47". 

2. Quilt another fall pumpkin embroidered wall hanging ASAP.✅  Yes it is quilted, bound and listed too.  The embroidery pattern is by Chestnut Junction.

3. Quilt another turkey table runner. ✅ Yes, they all look the same though as I use the same fabric because that is what seems to work best for this runner. 

4. Make more Pumpkin Harvest wall hangings.(my pattern) ✅ One done. 

5. Make sunflower wall hanging. (my pattern)- That is a big fat NOPE!

6. Work on whatever else I can squeeze in! ✅ I finished two other items and I will post them later this week. I mean you need something to come back for, right!!

To Do list on Tuesday

In spite of only have one item on the To Do List last week I accomplished more than that.  So the one thing on list was to make a round snowman topper for a customer. Nailed it!!  This is from one of my patterns called Around and Around We Go which can be found in my Etsy pattern shop.

With that done I was free to work on whatever I wanted.  First up was two round wedge toppers in a fall theme.  

Progress was also made on the Autumn SAL with Melisa.  I am pleased with how much I have done this week. I see Melisa finished hers up and it is cute!!!  I might take a couple nights off from it though, my wrists are really bothering me. 

Halloween is right on our back doorstep, well at least for those looking for new things to decorate with.  So I thought I should get another of these Hocus Pocus wall hangings done.  The pattern is from Primrose cottage on Etsy. I made one for myself last year and sold one also so you might remember seeing it here before.  It basically is using the same fabrics for all three.

Pumpkin Stars

 I had fun piecing and quilting this newest table runner. Pumpkin Stars is a block pattern from Primrose Cottages on Etsy.  I have done a few of their patterns and love them for the simplicity, and cuteness!

The pattern is just for the block, but I saw it as three blocks turned into a cute Halloween table runner.  Into the stash I went for my Halloween fabrics, I had the perfect two black ones with spiderwebs for the star points. A nice tone on tone orange for the pumpkins and did you notice the background fabric?  White with orange polka dots!!!  My love of polka dots continues and I don't think it will die anytime soon;)  

 After the blocks were made I interviewed several fabrics for the sashing/little border. I thought it needed more orange but in the end the perfect fabric was black and white tiny gingham, hmmm I am in love!!! 

Quilting the fun little pumpkins was so fun with their little curves.  An easy go to quilt design for star points is CC or Continous Curve.  I stitched in the ditch (SID) around the block itself and inside around the pumpkin block before meandering.  The quilting was done on my Nolting FunQuilter 17" midarm machine using Glide thread. The perfect ending was a black with little white plus signs for the binding. 

The backing wasn't quite wide enough so I added a black with gray print in the middle to make it the perfect size.  As soon as I finished binding it I got photos and listed in my Etsy shop and it sold 20 minutes later!!!!!  So I jumped right in making another and will be quilting it up soon.  I asked my customer what she loved about this one and she said it was Halloween without screaming it, and she loves polka dots and gingham. She has good taste too!

Hocus Pocus is done!

This cute Halloween wall hanging was started in early September and is now finished and hanging on my wall. 

It is called Hocus Pocus by Primrose Cottage Quilts.  Ever since I first laid eyes on it, I knew I wanted one for myself and now it has happened.  I gathered all my halloween fabric scraps and determined which ones would make the cut  (pun intended!).  I didn't want too big of a design or it would get lost in those little squares. The oranges were not Halloween specific, just tone on tones. It was quickly pieced.  

The quilting was pretty quick too once it made it to the top of the list to finish.  I absolutely love the clean look of this with the white with black polka dot background. 

Did you notice the checked orange and black binding!  I might have squealed just a bit when I saw this in my stash.  It might have been purchased a year or more ago with no specific project in mind.

Hocus Pocos wall hanging

 I have been seeing lots of Halloween quilts using the checked orange or black for the pumpkins.  And I have been wanting to make one so bad.  Friday afternoon I finished up a table runner for my Etsy shop and I had time to play.  I had just been telling my buddy, Wendy, that I needed a squirrel to come visit my house so it seemed like the perfect time to start my Halloween wall hanging.  

The pattern I am using is called Hocus Pocus from Primrose Cottage Quilts. No affiliation but she has a lot of cute quilts!!  

After digging out the right shades of orange tone on tone scraps and then the black Halloween scraps I used my Accuquilt 2.5" die to cut the squares.  The background white with black dots seemed perfect for this.  I built the pumpkin blocks on Friday afternoon and Saturday I built the star blocks and put it all together.  I love it and I love that all the fabrics were in my stash!

I hope to get it quilted this week and ready to hang on my wall on Oct 1st.  So glad I let that squirrel in my house!!  Who knew squirrels could be sew fun;)  I haven't had a lot of time to let loose and play and make something for myself so it felt great.

Spooky business

There is something spooky happening on my blog today!  It is all about the Witchy Stitchy blog hop put on by Carol at Just Let me Quilt.  I couldn't help myself, I had to sign up the minute she put out the call for bloggers to participate!  I love decorating for fall and making fall decorations.

At first I didn't know what I would make and then I got to digging looking for other projects to finish up and came across this wool felt stitchery that just needed finishing touches.  So it was a win win for me to use this excuse to get this one done:)  

The black background is craft felt and the bright colors are wool felt which I had blanket stitched around.  The spiderwebs are hand stitched with a straight stitch.  To finish it off to the size I wanted for my wall I used 100% cotton fabrics.  I added the orange/black polka dot border along with the black with tiny gray stripes.  Then the final border in purple with the little candy corn.  I stitched close to the letters and stippled the black background which made the letters poof out just right.

I had several cute Halloween buttons that I added to make it even more fun. And finally for the binding I used the black with gray stripe again.  I might wish I had bought more of it!  The pattern is by Granny's Legacy Patterns, but beware she has lots of cute ones!

Spooky time

Recently I was asked when my first sale is-not far away at all.  It starts Oct 5th and goes for one week.  I am excited for it but also nervous thinking about all I want/need to get done yet.

Little by little I am trying to get some panels ready for the fall craft sales.  The panel is the center plus the orange border with the circles.  All the borders from there out is what I added from my stash of fabrics.  

Last weekend, as we were taking a little drive, we ran across a pumpkin wagon so we stopped and bought these three.  My hubby thought I was crazy wanting that big with gourd looking one.  I think it adds character to my display.  No, the scarecrow is not going to keep holding the wall hanging.  I just thought it was cute for the photo shoot;)

 You can see some of the quilting here.  I like using e's and l's in one inch checkerboard borders.  First I quilted everything and then decided the orange border with the circles needed something.  TaDa-just quilt around the circles while ditching, it worked perfectly!


















The panel center received swirls.

Now you get to see more of the cute scarecrow my friend made for me.  I love decorating for fall.





















Sunday I cut out parts for five purses and sewed part of them together and they were ready for quilting this morning... I was almost done when a storm rolled through and I needed to shut down my longarm fast!





















These three Gobble it Up! runners are ready for quilting-perhaps tomorrow.
